English For Work Part 3 is designed for influence and leadership

This 8-week program will give you the communication training you need to refine your conflict resolution, negotiation and people management skills, specific to your work environment.

You will have the opportunity to practise in simulated conversations including performance reviews, conflict situations, and salary negotiations. 

With the support of your coach you will gain practical experience in learning to manage these situations, without the pressure of a live workplace setting.

Your Roadmap to Effective Workplace Communication!

❇️ WEEK 1:

Optimising Your Professional Communication Style

• Homework & Video Training - Take a test to learn about your communication style at work 

• Working Group - Share and compare your communication style with your group. (Hint: The language we use in Week 1 will set us up for the rest of the Program!)

❇️ WEEK 2:

Communicating clearly & directly

• Working Group - Practise pronunciation, grammar and tone for maximum clarity at work!

❇️ WEEK 3:

Giving feedback with empathy & tact

• Video Training - Learn helpful phrases for giving constructive feedback

• Working Group Simulated Practice - In pairs, you will conduct a Performance Review, focused on your industry & communication style. You will take turns being the Manager & Employee.

❇️ WEEK 4:

Initiating difficult conversations

• Video Training - Learn 4 different approaches to communicating & resolving conflict 

• Working Group Simulated Practice - Workplace Conflict Scenarios: Use the functional language you have learnt to initiate, navigate & resolve 3 issues.

❇️ WEEK 5:

Countering problems with solutions

• Homework - Read 3 Case Studies describing problems that arise in the workplace. How would you resolve them? What language can you use?

• Working Group Simulated Practice: In groups of 3, role play the scenarios to find solutions.

❇️ WEEK 6:

Negotiating like a pro!

• Video Training - 3 steps for negotiating a pay rise 

• Homework - Prepare for your one-to-one Pay Rise simulation with a Coach

• Simulated Practice (one-to-one) - Meet with your Coach to present your Pay Rise Proposal

❇️ WEEK 7:

Persuading for mutually-beneficial outcomes

• Video Training - The 5 Persuasion Principles 

• Working Group Simulated Practice - Tactful Persuasion: Practise language to persuade your team

❇️ WEEK 8:

Winning friends & influencing people

• Working Group Simulated Practice - Put your professional communication to the test! Use your clear, effective and persuasive communication skills to convince others that YOU are right!

How much time do I need?

Approximately 2-3 hours per week, for 8 weeks including class time and home task time.

You will need to attend 1 x live class per week, which will be at the same time every week.

Home tasks can be completed in your own time. The better you prepare, the more effective your live sessions will be.

Questions you may have

Is the price for all three parts of the program? 

No, the price indicated on this page is for Part 3 only.

Do I have to do all three? Can I just do one?

You can choose which parts of this program you complete, and in which order (i.e. you do not need to complete Part 1 first). Each part covers a specific area of workplace communication. There will be a separate application and enrolment process for each of the three parts. 

How many participants are in each class? 

You can expect a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 6 other people in your class, but you will have opportunities to practise speaking in different contexts; smaller groups, one-to-one with other classmates, group simulated role play experiences and a one-to-one session with your Coach for your Salary Negotiation.

Do I need a Hey Lady! membership to enrol?

Yes, you will need an active Hey Lady! Membership to enrol in our English For Work Program, as our small-group classes are hosted inside our online platform and you will communicate with you Coach and classmates via the platform. Learn about Membership Plans.
